An event that brings together leading writers, historians and scientists, who through a series of presentations will introduce some of the key histories and themes that are shaping the development of Objects to See Further, a new film by Matt Stokes, set in 1871, and developed as part of Great North Run Culture’s ‘Great North Greats’ programme.

This year, the Bupa Great North Run will be the first event of its kind in the world to reach its one millionth finish.
On Thursday 4 September, the NewcastleGateshead Quayside and the River Tyne will be transformed into a huge outdoor arena for an Opening Ceremony, marking the start of the official countdown to the 1 millionth finish of the Bupa Great North Run on Sunday 7 September.

The two new posts will develop and deliver our yearlong programme of exhibitions and events to celebrate the millionth finish of the Great North Run, in partnership with Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums.

This September, the Great North Run will be the first event of its kind in the world to reach its millionth finish, ahead of London, New York and Berlin. A celebration is in order!

We’re really excited to announce a grant of over £400,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to support an ambitious programme of special events and exhibitions which will explore and celebrate the North East's sporting and industrial heritage.
In a late (but great) addition to our 2013 programme, there will now be a live performance of Adam Chodzko’s incredible new audio work Rising: The Future of the Race at Tyneside Cinema on Saturday 7 September at 4pm.
