At Great North Run Culture we work with artists, writers, filmmakers, performers and more to create arts projects, events and exhibitions which are all inspired by the Great North Run.

We connect art and sport through film, photography, dance, drama, writing and many more using the world's largest half-marathon as a starting point.

Our Current Programme

Great North Greats 2015

As part of our GNR Million celebrations last year, a series of events took place around the route of the Great North Run. Activities and events ran throughout the year and showcased the achievements of people of the north east, including workshops for adults, fun days for children, artist talks and a very special film, Objects to See Further by artist-in-residence Matt Stokes. Check it out here.

Culture 2015

In 2015 our activities and events highlighted ways in which art and sport connect, using the Great North Run as inspiration. We saw two new pieces of art created especially for us: a moving image commission (film) Heatscapes by artist Layla Curtis which was shown at the Tyneside Cinema Gallery and Onward Together As One by Hope Stebbing and Oliver Perry - art installation along the route of the run.
