To celebrate the millionth finish of the Great North Run in 2014, Great North Run Culture staged a spectacular celebration of music, dance and light that filled the Newcastle Gateshead quayside. An epic poem by award winning children’s author David Almond provided the story for the event, taking the audience on a moving journey from the big bang to the present day.

In late 2015, illustration students from the Imagemaking pathway of Northumbria University’s BA(Hons) Graphic Design degree took inspiration from Almond’s poem to produce their own visual interpretations of the North East, presenting the region in new and exciting ways, you can see these fantastic art works at Seven Stories from Thursday 28 January 2016.
