The 2009 Bupa Great North Run Cultural Programme was a year of firsts.

Our programme of new commissions and projects featured our first theatre show for families, 13.1 by Mike Kenny, our first exhibition Hit The Ground with new work by Vicki Bennett, Amy Feneck and Laura Mansfield, our first online project, Dry Run by NAME and Atau Tanaka, which enabled viewers to trace the emotional and physical journeys of ten Bupa Great North Run participants, and our first interactive digital playground, Great Street Games by media artists KMA, which linked Gateshead, Sunderland and Middlesbrough for a series of spectacular athletics games.

With an artist talk and book launch, schools visits and artist interventions in papers and on billboards, there was plenty for everyone to see and enjoy.
