Best-selling author David Almond wrote a new short story especially for the Bupa Great North Run Cultural Programme. 

David’s story for younger readers, Harry Miller’s Run, tells the enchanting tale of a young boy taking part in the Junior Great North Run and his chance encounter with Harry Miller, an old man with a fantastic story to tell.

SPECIAL AUTHOR EVENT

David Almond read Harry Miller’s Run at a special event for families and young people at Seven Stories Centre for Children’s Books. This event marked the launch of a special Seven Stories exhibition Winged Tales of the North, exploring the work and inspiration of David Almond.

David Almond is twice winner of the Whitbread Children's Book Award. His first novel, Skellig, won the Whitbread Children's Award and the Carnegie Medal. His second, Kit’s Wilderness, won the Smarties Award Silver Medal, was Highly Commended for the Carnegie Medal, and shortlisted for the Guardian Award. The Fire-Eaters won the Whitbread, the Smarties Gold Award and was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. David is widely regarded as one of the most exciting and innovative children's authors writing today, and his books are bestsellers all over the world. He lives with his family in Northumberland.
