Winner of the Best Writer award at The Journal Culture Awards this summer, David Almond is an extraordinary talent who in 2014 wrote And Let Us Run, the script which accompanied the Great North Run Million Opening Ceremony on the banks of the river Tyne. It celebrated the triumphs and people of the region and remembered the hardships and obstacles we have faced. It paid tribute to the ordinary people of the North East who have accomplished extraordinary things.

Informed by this tale, students from a number of the region’s primary schools have worked with theatre professionals to develop a short play enacting their interpretation of David Almond’s story.

Performed by professional actors, we are delighted to be able to showcase And Let Us Run: The Play at Discovery Museum this autumn, Thursday 8 October 2015. More information to follow, the event will be ticketed but entirely free of charge thanks to our sponsors Port of Tyne.
