Internationally
acclaimed artist Beat Streuli was shown for the first time in the North
East as part of our 2008 programme. His work documents the transient
and pedestrian activity of urban life through photography and film.
Beat
visited the 2007 Bupa Great North Run to create portraits of runners
and spectators at the event. Capturing people in their natural state,
often unawares, he creates uncontrived images showing expressions and
emotions of joy, tension and relief.
His large-scale images of elite athletes, spectators and runners were exhibited at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and The Sage in Gateshead.
