A
series of outdoor games which took place simultaneously in three North
East locations - Gateshead, Sunderland and Middlesbrough. Each area
competed against the others in this world-first event created by media
artists KMA.
Projected
light and thermal-imaging technology were used to create jaw-dropping
interactive playing arenas in which the physical movements of players
determined the outcome of the games. Participants developed their
game-playing skills as they progressed through a number of levels to
help their area to victory or to simply have fun.
Great Street Games was open to everyone and did not exclude those with limited mobility.
In association with Gateshead Council, Middlesbrough Council and Sunderland City Council. Enabled by Openreach.
The Gateshead event was part of the 2009 Juice Festival, part of Newcastle Gateshead’s world-class programme of festival
and events developed by Culture 10. The Sunderland City Council
presentation was part of Octoberfest 2009. Thanks to Teesside
University and the Institute of Digital Innovation for help with the Middlesborough event.
