The
decommissioned Tornado jet which will form the basis of Fiona Banner's
major new public artwork starts its journey from a scrapyard in Seaham,
Co. Durham.
Tornado involves the physical and conceptual transformation of a decommissioned
RAF Tornado airplane into a large single bell. Situated in a busy
public space to coincide with the Cultural Olympiad’s Open Weekend of
24-25 July and placed at a human level, the bell may be rung by anyone
who encounters it.
