Blog Getting to know all things Great North Run Culture

For the past six weeks, I’ve been volunteering at Great North Run Culture. Since my first day of very welcoming introductions I’ve had the opportunity of really getting to know what Great North Run Culture does...

I’ve joined Director Beth Bate at meetings with artists to see how their #GNRC12 commissions are coming along. I’ve met with Melanie Manchot, winner of the 2013 Great North Run Moving Image Commission and been to a 2014 programming meeting with Beth and some of the partners today. It’s been really exciting and I’m only half way through my placement!

The start of the month saw Douglas Gordon’s The End of Civilisation at the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle. It was a great way to start my placement by seeing an event in full swing after all the plans have been put in place.

I’ve met with Sebastian Trend, an artist I am working with to develop a four day workshop called Runaway Billboard as part of the free In Motion education programme. I’ll be blogging about this later on.

By also being involved with the audience evaluation research conducted by Great North Run Culture, I can see the many different aspects involved in providing a packed culture programme.

Naomi joined us in 2012 as a summer intern after graduating from the University of Brighton with a degree in Visual Culture. Naomi is now Programme Assistant and will be blogging about events and what it takes to be part of the team during the busiest time of the year in the Great North Run Culture office.
