News Great North Greats programme announced
To celebrate the millionth finish of the Bupa Great North Run, we've got a brilliant programme of events, exhibitions and activities over the next year: Great North Greats is here!

Kicking off in South Shields with the Great North Greats exhibition, this year-long programme is a celebration of individuals and communities, everyday triumphs and groundbreaking achievements. It is a celebration of all the Great North Greats - ordinary people, extraordinary achievements. We've a day of family fun with workshops, science sessions and creative play on 30 August at 105 King Street in the centre of South Shields - we hope to see you there!

Look out for Matt Stokes, Great North Run Million artist in residence, who will be producing a newspaper containing a selection of images from the collections at Tyne & Wear Archives and Museums, which will grow as the exhibition tours along the course of the Bupa Great North Run throughout 2014 and 2015.

Digital stories and oral histories are being collected from people who've been part of the Bupa Great North Run over the years, as well as highlighting many of the region's unsung heroes and their stories of triumph against the odds.

David Almond's story And Let Us Run is the focus of the spectacular Great North Run Million Opening Ceremony on Thursday 4 September. If you've ever taken part in the Bupa Great North Run, you can claim your free ticket here, or buy more here. We're also taking David's story out to schools, community groups and venues along the course of the run over the coming months, so keep your eyes peeled for future performances.

To celebrate the 10th birthday of Great North Run Culture, we're delighted to bring back one of our most popular commissions, Claire Morgan's Gone With The Wind at the Laing Gallery. Featuring a lone kittiwake - a bird that has special relevance to the Bupa Great North Run - suspended amongst thousands of seeds, this breathtakingly beautiful work is the perfect way to mark our own special occasion.
