Top UK athlete heads to Beamish, The Living Museum of the North for Bank Holiday fun run

This August bank holiday, children aged between 5 and 11 years old are invited to Beamish, The Living Museum of the North to take part in a very special run and day of celebrations, all for free! Hundreds have already signed up for the 1.5 mile run, taking place on Saturday 29 August 2015 and today the organisers Great North Run Culture and partners GO Run For Fun, announce the involvement of Scottish middle distance runner Eilish McColgan.

McColgan will officially start the race at Beamish in which it is hoped 700 children will participate. She will cheer and encourage runners from the top of a traditional Beamish open-top tram, present each child with their very own medal at the finish and spend time with the runners talking about a career in athletics.

There are still a limited number of places left, so visit beamish.org.uk to register a place for your child. All participants receive free entry to Beamish, a goodie bag, a GO Run For Fun t-shirt and a medal after the race!

Children who participate are able to get free entry into Beamish for the day and one parent or guardian per child entry can purchase a discounted day ticket for Beamish at just £6.00. Standard admission charges apply for additional adults/children. Beamish Unlimited Passes are valid for admission to the museum.

After the run which kicks off at 9.00am on Saturday 29 August, a number of other free activities will take place across Beamish, including live sing-a-longs in The Pit Village and a parade which commemorates sports throughout bygone ages. Sally Lockey, Great North Run Culture’s programme manager said: "This is a great family day out to encourage children to take part in different sports. Adults are encouraged to run with their children too! And we’ll certainly need plenty of spectators to cheer on the children!”

There is just one week left to register your child, so visit beamish.org.uk today!
