This August bank holiday,
children aged between 5 and 11 years old are invited to Beamish, The Living Museum
of the North to take part in a very special run and day of celebrations, all
for free!
The 1.5 mile run takes place
on Saturday 29 August 2015 and marks the end of a year spent honouring Great
North Greats - extraordinary people from the north east who have all been
recognised by Great North Run Culture as part of their ongoing series of events
following the GNR Million Ceremony in 2014. The run will take place
around the charming grounds of Beamish in County Durham, a living museum which
recreates daily life in the north from the early 1800s through to the 1940s.
Children who participate in the run are able to get free entry into Beamish for
the day and one parent or guardian per child entry can purchase a discounted
day ticket for Beamish at just £6.00. After the run, which kicks
off at 9.00am on Saturday 29 August, a number of other free activities will take
place across Beamish, including live sing-a-longs in The Pit Village and a parade
which commemorates sport throughout bygone ages.
Paul Foster, Beamish’s
Historic Events Officer, said: "We’re very excited to be hosting Go Run for Fun
as part of a fantastic celebration of the north east’s sporting heritage. If
you’ve got children aged between 5 and 11 years old, get on your marks and
register them for this fun event.”
The Go Run For Fun team is part
of the Great Run company who travel around the world encouraging children to
take-up running and inspiring the athletes of tomorrow, the run at Beamish is
made possible through support from Port of Tyne, Arts Council England and
Heritage Lottery Fund.
Sally Lockey, programme
manager for Great North Run Culture encourages families and children to visit
Beamish Saturday 29 August, "It’s a great opportunity for children to get into
running, a very manageable 1.5 mile run around an extraordinary venue plus you
get to spend the day at Beamish afterwards!”
