We See Together, We See Further is a short film by artists Susie Green and
Mat Fleming, that documents and interprets the public programme of
talks and events that complimented Matt Stokes’ ‘Great North Greats’
commission for Great North Run Culture, entitled Objects to See Further.
By following intimate group visits to Cragside - the country residence of
William Armstrong, The Maritime Collection at Tyne & Wear Museums, The
Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge and The Mining Institute in Newcastle,
Green and Fleming have made a rhythmic and exploratory artwork.
As well as being an evocative visual diary, the film looks at how subjective
associations emerge through research, and evidences a series of encounters
between interested people and interesting places.

Objects to See Further is a film and accompanying small exhibition, by artist and filmmaker Matt Stokes, developed as part of his residency with Great North Run Culture’s ‘Great North Greats’ programme: a year-long series of events, exhibitions, activities and exploration into the people of the north east and their extraordinary achievements.
It is set in the Victorian era and follows engineer Robert Stirling Newall, industrialist William Armstrong, rower James Renforth and songwriter Joe Wilson who were pioneers in their fields. The film looks at the lives of these men and how they influenced the region so profoundly.
