We are delighted to present GNR Million:Rework, an event at Gateshead Old Town Hall this September.
SATURDAY 12 SEPTEMBER, 6:15pm
A cornerstone of the GNR
Million opening ceremony in 2014 was the unique collaboration between BAFTA-winning
artist and filmmaker Tal Rosner and Ivor Novello Award winning composer Dan
Jones. A specially commissioned film and score which celebrated the past, the present
and the future ingenuity in the North East and was spectacularly mapped onto
Sage Gateshead. On the night the enormous projections and the rousing score
provided a breathtaking backdrop for And Let Us Run, the inspiring poetic
script written by acclaimed author David Almond especially for the event.
Now, in a special one-off event at Gateshead Old Town
Hall, Great North Run Culture presents GNR
Million Re:Work, a version of the original projection mapping, accompanied
by the original score and with live narration by author David Almond.
In advance of this screening Tal Rosner and Dan Jones have
revisited their original composition and animations and in doing so have
created something more intimate, something more intense, something that brings
the audience closer to the essence of the work. The existence of Tal’s film and
Dan’s music are entirely dependent on one another, as one ebbs as does the
other flow, the visual and the aural complementing and invigorating each other,
so intertwined are the two that it would be impossible to present one without
its partner.
This is an opportunity to experience the GNR Million
Opening Ceremony in a way never before possible, narrated for the very first
time by David Almond. We recommend this event for a stirring and emotional
journey through the heritage of the region, crafted by artists
practicing at the forefront of their craft.
Followed by Q&A with artist and filmmaker Tal Rosner and author David Almond.
