Karin Kihlberg and Reuben Henry’s film The Order of Things tells the story of the Bupa Great North Run from the perspective of the
physical course itself, its architecture, structures and materials.
Reuben
and Karin have been working with sound engineer Pablo Rinon on the 5.1
sound. The soundtrack will feature Canadian avante-rock musician Bernard
Falaise's guitar soundscape and Phillip Glass, one of the most
prominent composers associated with musical minimalism.
The Order of Things uses
the conceit of a science fiction narrator to create an homage to the
architecture, engineering and industrial design of the course of the
Run. Actor John Woodvine – born in South Shields and a veteran of stage
and screen – will narrate the film.
Woodvine graduated from RADA and has appeared in films such as An American Werewolf in London, Miss Potter and Fatherland.
On stage, John has had a long career with the RSC, playing opposite
Judi Dench and Ian McKellan. He won a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for
Best Comedy Performance for The Henrys in the 1980s and worked at the Old Vic in the 1950s. His television work includes classics such as The Avengers and Z-Cars, and more recently Shameless, Coronation Street and Midsomer Murders to name but a few. On radio he was in the BBC Radio 4 macabre comedy series The Cabaret of Dr Caligari. And most recently, he voiced the role of Prospero in May 2012 in BBC Radio 3’s broacast of The Tempest.
The artists are also producing a book to accompany the film; free
copies will be available at the launch event at NewBridge Space in
Newcastle on 6 September and then on sale at the exhibition until it
ends on 13 October. This is the last exhibition to be held in the space
before our friends at The NewBridge Project move next door. The event is
